Barry Boneau has established himself as a leader in the architecture scene with a unique skill for designing with a human conscious.

Barry Boneau was born in Midwest City, Oklahoma, in 1974. Barry’s family relocated to Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri during his high school years. It was during his time in Chicago that Barry fondly began to marvel at building structures. Barry graduated from the University of Missouri, in 1997, with a B.S. in Environmental Design, where he became recognized as a superior interior designer. Then he graduated from the University of Kansas, in 2000, with a Master of Architecture, where he was an influential member of the internationally recognized Studio 804.

Barry worked on a series of residential high-rises as a architect at Pappageorge Haymes, LTD in Chicago, Illinois. He also worked as a furniture designer and builder prior to his move to New York City. In 2003, Barry moved to New York City to establish his own practice. He began by renovating loft spaces in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Soon thereafter, Barry formed Substance, Inc., a company dedicated to designing and building with a specialty in metal and glass applications for restaurants, private residences, commercial buildings, and public spaces. Among Barry’s most well-known projects are 216 Alabama in Lawrence, Kansas, (Studio 804) which received National Honor Awards from several institutions.; the Bowery Hotel in New York; the Hebrew Academy Synogogue in Manhasset, New York; Barbounia in New York; Poggenpohl in New York; Metro Marche in New York; and The Source by Wolfgang Puck in the Newsmuseum in Washington, DC.
